So you’ve got a little bundle of joy on the way and you’re wondering when is the best time to book a newborn session? Well, let me shed some light on this for you.
When it comes to capturing those precious moments of your little bundle of joy, newborn sessions are usually scheduled within the first three weeks after your baby’s arrival. This is the period when they are still in that oh-so-adorable sleepy stage and can be effortlessly posed for those heart-melting photos. It’s also a time when they have that super cute fresh newborn look, with their tiny features and delicate expressions. So, make sure to book your session early to capture these fleeting moments that you’ll cherish forever! To make sure you secure a spot with your preferred newborn photographer, it’s best to book your newborn session during your pregnancy. This way, you can ensure that there is availability around the time of your due date.
What happens after 3 weeks?!
After the initial three weeks following your baby’s birth, they will continue to grow and keep growing. Although they will become more alert and less sleepy, it is still possible to have a newborn photography session for babies under three months old. However, it’s important to note that older newborns tend to be bigger and more interested in what is happening around them, which may result in a session that has a different look and feel compared to a true newborn stage session. It’s impossible to predict how the session will go since every baby is different. While some newborns under ten days old may refuse to fall asleep for hours, others who are three to four months old may sleep through the entire session. Ideally, a newborn session should be scheduled within a three-week period, with a sweet spot between five to fourteen days. However, any baby under three months old still qualifies for a session. After the three-month mark, it’s recommended that you book a milestone session instead.
So when should you book?
I recommend booking at least a few months before your due date. Most newborn photographers, including me, will only take a few sessions per week, so availability is limited. I only take a maximum of 2 sessions per week. Some of my weeks are less busy and I can take a last-minute session, so it’s always worth checking my availability. Pre-booking your due date means it guarantees you a spot for a newborn session. The actual session is scheduled after the baby is born. I ask you to notify me as soon as possible for the best possible timing of your session. Pre-booking is easy. I will ask a few questions to ensure that we are a good fit and that I can provide the kind of session you are looking for. After that, I will ask for a deposit, and you’ll be all set. Please keep in mind that your deposit is non-refundable, as it is used to secure my availability for your session within a 3-week period after birth.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to book your newborn session.
